This Awesome Antique Leather Trunk on Metal Caster Wheels was made by Crouch & Fitzgerald sometime around the 1880’s - the patent date on the front center lock hardware is Dec. 7, 1880 - but they were in business since 1839 according to the label on the inside of the lid. Unique to most I have seen over the years is the pull down 3 3/4” deep storage box that fits up into the inside of the lid, and which has the red leather document pouch on the outside. The lid stays up by itself with the metal brace on the left side, and it is the tiny metal button there that you press to release the lid to let it close. The other top tray is 3 1/2” deep and has its 2 compartments and the braided rope handles to lift it up, and the bottom of the trunk is approx. 9” deep. Its 18 1/2” tall including the wheels, or 16 1/2” without, 29 3/4” long and 16 1/2” wide across the top. The leather is stained and well worn and the one outer handle is broken, but its been rubbed down with Hemp oil several times now so it is smooth to the touch and in much better shape than when I found it. I do not have the key but it opens easily and there are no musty odors.
