Opuntia ficus-indica (Nopales). A nutritious plant originating in Mexico and South America. The flesh is a good source of vitamins, minerals, and several types of amino acids. Both the leaves and the fruit are edible. In drought areas they are used for livestock feed, reducing the livestock's need for water.
